WEATHER UNTIL NEW YEAR’S EVE 2025, ANALYSIS AND FORECAST
The grip of winter weather that mainly affects half of Italy is starting to loosen, with still snowfalls at low altitudes in some areas between the central Adriatic side and the southern regions.
The depression has now moved to the Aegean and continues to lose energy, no longer fueled by significant cold air contributions descending from high latitudes. On Boxing Day, instability will also weaken in the South and in Abruzzo, with much more sporadic phenomena. Temperatures themselves will slowly climb, with the snow level rising to around 2,600/3,300 feet.
However, there will be room for a last gasp of instability in the extreme South at the end of the week. The tail end of a new cold impulse will pass right between Friday, December 27 and Saturday, December 28, with a temporary resurgence of precipitation in some areas of the Ionian South and eastern Sicily.
The cold air flow, of Balkan origin, should gradually dissipate and exit the scene by the end of the year, with rising temperatures. The anticyclone will ensure stability across the entire country in an uncontested manner from December 29 until at least New Year’s Eve.
Right between New Year’s Eve and the start of the New Year, the heart of the Anticyclone could position itself over Italy, and the stagnant and humid air in the lower layers will favor a significant increase in fog in valleys and plains, as well as low clouds between Liguria and the Upper Tyrrhenian.
IN DETAIL
Boxing Day: stable and widely sunny weather in the North and most of Central Italy.
Irregular cloud cover in the rest of Italy with residual more sporadic phenomena between Abruzzo and the internal areas of the South.
Snow on the hills will rise to around 3,300/3,900 feet in the Southern Apennines. Friday 27: unchanged context and increasingly scarce and isolated phenomena even in the South, but towards the evening some new precipitation arrives in Salento and the Upper Ionian Calabria. Weekend: some precipitation on Saturday 28 in Calabria and Sicily, while Sunday will be sunny everywhere. Further weather trends: the further affirmation of the anticyclone will bring stability across the entire country.
Until New Year’s Eve, good weather will prevail, but locally dense and persistent fog will return in the Po Valley.
