WEATHER UNTIL DECEMBER 26, 2024, ANALYSIS AND FORECAST
The anticyclone is rapidly giving way, pressured by a North Atlantic disturbance with rapidly deteriorating weather across Italy, starting from the North. Rain and snow will return as main players along with stormy winds, with bad weather moving to the central and southern regions by Friday, the 20th. Winter returns to the scene due to cold air from Northern Europe. The strong winds, which will locally reach gusts over 62 mph, will enhance the sharp temperature drop and cause violent storm surges on exposed coasts. Snow will return to fall along the Apennine ridge, descending to locally hilly altitudes.
On Saturday, the 22nd, the weather will improve, but with the last precipitations on the central Adriatic side and the South. A new front will reach Italy on Sunday.
The trajectory of this further disturbed impulse will favor the Center-South, with more rain and mountain snow towards the end of the day.
The North will be almost skipped by the disturbance, with only a few showers and snowfalls on the border Alps where we will have locally significant accumulations in some sectors. This second disturbance will be followed by a massive influx of Arctic air, sliding at the beginning of the new week along the eastern edge of the anticyclone located over Western Europe. The maximum effects are expected between December 24 and 25, in what will be a more pronounced winter phase on the Adriatic and the South where instability with low-altitude snow will not be lacking.
