This front has significantly weakened the root of the high pressure, which for the entire first decade of November had ensured stability over much of central-western Europe. The situation is changing, leading to more dynamic and turbulent conditions not only in Sicily but also in other regions of our Central-South.
The rain will also invade the rest of the South, especially Salento, Basilicata, Campania, northern Puglia, Molise, lower Lazio, and lower Abruzzo, following the rise of a depression from the lower Tyrrhenian towards Puglia.
Another cold wave this week
Another cold front from Scandinavia is also expected to arrive, crossing the Adriatic and then breaking into the central regions between Thursday and Friday.
This new cold flow will not only further drop the temperatures, bringing them to typically winter values, but will also bring new precipitations and some strong thunderstorms. On Thursday, November 14, disorganized but rather widespread precipitations are expected in the central regions, especially in the afternoon and evening.
With the drop in temperatures and the passage of the cold front, the first significant snowfalls could occur at high altitudes along the north-central Apennines. Between Thursday evening and Friday, the cold front could cross the South, bringing scattered rains, some showers, and some strong thunderstorms in a winter-like climate context, with temperatures well below seasonal averages. After this front passes, a gradual improvement could be seen over the weekend, but temperatures will remain quite low, with highs often below 15 °C.
Furthermore, frosts and freezes are not excluded in the Po Valley and the inland areas of Central Italy during the weekend.
