Its weakening started several days ago in the lower Mediterranean, between the channels of Sardinia and Sicily, where the weather conditions have worsened with showers and thunderstorms. Now the situation is worsening further, especially in Sicily, where stationary downpours are expected that could cause hydrogeological disruptions and even flooding episodes, particularly between Messina, Catania, and Syracuse.
Additionally, in the coming hours and throughout the week, the bad weather will also extend to other regions of the peninsula, particularly to the remaining areas of the South and the central regions.
Rain in various regions
In the next 48 hours, rain is expected repeatedly in the South, including Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, as well as Molise, lower Lazio, and lower Abruzzo.
Subsequently, between Thursday and Friday, another mass of cold air from Scandinavia will break in, creating a small but insidious depression along the Tyrrhenian side, triggering rain and showers first in Central Italy and then also in the South. This week, it will be necessary to carry an umbrella in the central-southern regions, while the North will almost always remain on the margins of instability, at least until Saturday.
Some quick showers could develop in the Northeast between Wednesday evening and Thursday, but these will be brief and poorly organized phenomena.
Another disturbance from Sunday?
Starting from Sunday, a vast mass of cold air of polar maritime origin from Greenland, full of humidity and instability, could slide over Central Europe and Northern Italy, bringing rain in the plains and snowfall in the mountains. The situation is changing, and now the second half of November promises to be much more dynamic and eventful, with a sequence of disturbances and the first incursions of polar cold air.
