Now the situation is rapidly changing, with the arrival of cold north-eastern currents that have already invaded the Adriatic regions and the South, causing a significant drop in temperatures.
The weather conditions will further deteriorate in the coming days across much of Italy, thanks to the arrival of several disturbances that will demolish the anticyclonic structure that has accompanied us for over a week.
Is the polar cold coming?
Last but not least, the maritime polar cold from Greenland could break in, which would not only involve much of Europe but also bring severe deterioration within the Mediterranean. All the calculation centers show the descent of a vast polar cold trough from the northwest, which should initially affect Great Britain and central Europe, then push towards our peninsula around November 20.
The arrival of these massive cold masses from Greenland will bring bad weather conditions, especially in the North and on the Tyrrhenian side, thanks to the development of depressions in the western Mediterranean and the Gulf of Lion. This means that, at least in the initial phase, temperatures could suddenly increase, especially in the Center-South and on the major islands, due to the effect of the sirocco winds drawn by these depressions.
Snow in the Alps
The North of Italy could instead maintain rather low temperatures, favoring the arrival of abundant snowfalls along the Alpine arc for the first time this season.
The arrival of this strong maritime polar disturbance would be a godsend for the Alps, which for long stretches still show a landscape far from typical autumn conditions. According to the latest updates, bad weather could hit the North regions between November 18 and 25, favoring significant snowfalls in the Alps, especially above 1500 meters in altitude.
At the moment, it is difficult to predict snowfalls at lower altitudes, but we will update on this point in the next weather editorials.
