WEATHER UNTIL NOVEMBER 12, 2024, ANALYSIS AND FORECAST
The anticyclone remains a strong dominator over much of Europe, with stable weather also in Italy between sun and warmth in the mountains, but also dense fog in the plains.
Stability does not always correspond to sunny weather in Italy, as is typical of high-pressure periods in late Autumn. Stagnant air contributes to an increase in foggy phenomena and low clouds due to humidity. This extensive anticyclone has already weakened on the southern edge, where humid infiltrations of Atlantic origin clash with cooler air flows in the lower layers drawn from the east. Sicily is already affected, with this area of instability that in the coming days will expand to Sardinia and will try to approach the peninsular sectors, but without particular effects. We will not have the immediate end of the high-pressure dominance due to this cyclonic area. During the weekend and early next week, however, there will be a possible contribution of colder air from the Balkans towards Italy, with a more noticeable temperature drop in the Adriatic regions and then in the South.
Temperatures will drop and return closer to seasonal averages. Following this, the anticyclone will shift its maximums further west and north, between the United Kingdom and Scandinavia, thus opening the way for an impulse of Arctic air from high latitudes towards the heart of Europe.
Part of this cold air could break into Italy, regenerating a Mediterranean depression that would favor bad weather in Italy, along with a temperature drop especially in the North.
IN DETAIL
Thursday, November 7: irregular cloudiness increasing over the Major Islands, with some rain or isolated showers locally of a stormy nature.
Always sunny elsewhere, except for some cloud cover on the Adriatic sides. Fog persists in the northern plains. Friday, November 8: still thunderstorms in Sicily and some showers in Sardinia, mostly harmless clouds over the rest of Italy.
Fog in the northern plains and valleys of the Center-South. Weekend: variability over the Islands, worsening on Sunday in Puglia due to colder air from the Balkans. Further weather trends: the approach of a more extensive cold air core from Central-Eastern Europe will lead to a general deterioration from Tuesday 12, with falling temperatures and the first taste of Winter.
