There is great excitement in anticipation of the upcoming winter season, with high expectations for weather that could be quite surprising. The transition to Winter could be shorter than expected, contrary to predictions that suggested a prolonged Summer.

this did not happen and this year Autumn arrived early, with temperatures dropping rapidly while we were still suffering from extreme heat.
This happened just before mid-September and since then, nothing has been the same, with Summer unable to make a comeback. The weather might be ready to surprise us again, with cold and snow arriving much earlier than expected. Winter could make its presence felt sooner than expected, given the current tendency for cold air descents from Arctic latitudes. For a few weeks now, we have started to address some hot topics, topics that over the next two months will tell us what the weather evolution for winter 2024-2025 might be. We are now laying the foundations for the upcoming Winter.
The next Winter promises a different trend
Specifically, we have talked about the La Niña phenomenon, the NAO, the AO, and the Polar Vortex in general.
The latter, in particular, always plays a very important role, but among all these elements at play it is not certain that it will be the only important one for the winter trend. At this moment, it is still too early to draw up a ranking; at this moment we simply need to try to understand how some patterns might interact with each other. Only once this is understood, will we be able to be much clearer about winter projections. At the moment, since there is still a long way to go, we cannot predict Winter, but there are a number of elements that suggest it will be a season different from recent ones. Winter as a whole may also be mild and at times anticyclonic, but there is the possibility of big surprises. Between January and February, if everything aligns in a certain way, we could finally see old-style events again, events that have been missing from our latitudes for several years.
We are talking about the Russian Siberian cold, we are talking about that icy air capable of bringing snow even to the coasts, should it arrive.
