Did you know that …

in Dubai, pools during the summer months… ‍ ⁣In Dubai, the weather in the summer months can ⁤be particularly extreme, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C, reaching even 50°C. In these ‍conditions, pools naturally heated ⁣by the sun reach temperatures that easily exceed 50°C and beyond, making the water less refreshing⁣ for those seeking relief‌ from‍ the heat.

This ⁤problem is so significant that it is common to resort to various techniques ⁤to cool the pools and keep them at a comfortable temperature for swimmers. ‍

How pools are cooled in Dubai

Cooling pools in such a⁤ scorching climate becomes ⁤a necessity, and in Dubai, where summers can seem endless, innovative and effective methods are used to combat the heat.

Using‍ ice to lower the water temperature

One of the most used methods is the ⁤addition of large amounts of ice directly into the pools.

This practice begins as early as April, when the weather starts to bring significantly higher temperatures.

Ice is added directly to the water to quickly lower the⁢ temperature and keep it at more comfortable values, usually between 26°C and 28°C.

This system, although effective in the short term, represents an unsustainable solution in the long term, ⁤as it requires a large consumption of resources for the production and transportation ⁣of ice.

Reversible ⁢heat pumps

⁣ A ⁣more technological method for cooling pools is⁢ the use of ⁣ reversible heat pumps, which not only heat the water during the colder months but can also cool it during ⁣the summer.‍ These pumps keep the water temperature constant, automatically adjusting the system⁣ to counteract the external temperatures, which regularly exceed 40°C during July ‍and ⁤ August.

Heat pumps are more efficient and sustainable compared to ⁣the use of ice and allow the water to be maintained between 26°C and 28°C, ideal for a refreshing swim.   ⁤

Why is it necessary ⁣to cool pools?

Extreme temperatures and risk of overheating

The climate of Dubai during the summer months is ‍extremely hot, with maximum temperatures often reaching or exceeding 45°C.

Without a cooling ‍system, ⁢pool water can easily become too hot, reaching values above ⁤ 40°C, making the swimming experience unpleasant.

At this⁣ temperature,⁢ the water does not provide relief from the heat and can also cause discomfort, making cooling necessary to ensure an optimal swimming temperature.

Swimmer comfort

Water that is⁢ too hot ⁤does not offer the desired relief, and the comfort of swimmers is one of the main priorities of hotel facilities and private pools in Dubai. ⁣Ensuring that the water is maintained‍ between 26°C and 28°C not only improves the experience of those using the pool but also allows for extended‍ time spent in the water, even during the hottest hours of the day.

This is particularly important in the months of June, July, and August, when the sun is strongest and temperatures ‍remain high for most of the ⁣day.

Extension of the swimming season

Thanks to‌ cooling systems, it is possible to significantly extend the⁢ swimming season in Dubai.

Without cooling, pools would become impractical during⁤ the hottest months,⁣ limiting use to a few months of ⁤the year.

However, thanks to the use of heat pumps and ice, pools can be comfortably used from late October to May, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy the pools even in the hottest months of the year. ⁤

The ‍most iconic pools in Dubai and their cooling

⁣ ⁤ In Dubai, some of the most famous and spectacular pools are equipped‌ with advanced ‌cooling ⁣systems, ensuring that even in the hottest months, the water ⁢remains pleasantly⁣ cool.

Among these, ⁣the pool at the Address Beach Resort, located almost 294 meters high, and the Aura pool in the Palm Tower, suspended 200 meters high and famous for‍ being the highest infinity pool in the world, stand out.

Both ⁣of these pools offer breathtaking ⁣views of‍ the⁣ Persian Gulf ‍ and the city skyline, but ‌require careful temperature‍ control to⁣ offer ⁤a comfortable ‌swimming experience even during extreme heat.

Another iconic pool is the one ⁢at the SLS Dubai Hotel & ⁤Residences, located ‌on the 75th floor, offering a view of Downtown Dubai.

This ‌facility also uses advanced technologies for water cooling, essential to keep the ‌water cool at⁣ such altitudes, where the sun beats more ‌intensely.

Environmental considerations and sustainability

Although the use of ice to cool pools is a quick and effective solution, it presents issues related to environmental sustainability. ‍The energy and resources required to produce and transport ice can have a significant ⁣impact on the environment.

Consequently, reversible heat pumps represent a more sustainable long-term choice, reducing environmental impact while ensuring more efficient water temperature control. But this doesn’t happen only in Dubai, but ⁣also in major cities in⁣ America, in China for ⁤example. Phoenix and Las Vegas make extensive use ‌of pool ‌cooling systems given the atrocious temperatures that persist ‌throughout the summer season.
