But what weather can we expect at the onset of winter?
Return of the subtropical high pressure
In the coming days, the subtropical high pressure will return, ready to reclaim all of Italy, temporarily putting a pause on the bad weather.
For at least three days, there will be no significant instability, in fact, we will have mostly clear skies or, at most, gloomy and foggy weather in Northern Italy and on the Tyrrhenian side.
In short, stable weather throughout the boot, especially between December 16, 17, and 18. Close to the winter solstice, however, the weather conditions will gradually begin to change, as new unstable fronts from the North Atlantic, coming from Greenland, will approach, deteriorating the high pressure until it is completely swept away.
Deterioration between December 19 and 20
Between the evening of Thursday, December 19 and Friday, December 20, with a high probability, the weather conditions will worsen in much of the Center-North, thanks to the arrival of a new Atlantic disturbance, ready to bring widespread rain and also snowfall in the mountains.
At the moment, it is impossible to talk about snow in the plains or at low altitudes for the North, but some surprises in the hills around December 20 could appear, especially in the North-West.
Long unstable phase between December 23 and 26
This disturbance will start a long period of unstable weather, which could culminate with strong depressions between December 23 and 26. The day of December 21, that is, the day of the solstice that will effectively inaugurate the astronomical winter, could see a general pause from the instability and, therefore, the temporary return of the sun, awaiting more rain and more snowfall in the following days.
