Much of the country is facing typical seasonal cooling, with widespread frosts and freezing nights expected in the coming days.
Cold temperatures and widespread frosts
The minimum temperatures will continue to progressively drop until Thursday, with frosts that could reach values below 23°F in the most favorable areas, especially in elevated regions and plateaus.
Regions such as Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, and Aragón will be particularly affected, with cities like Lugo, Pamplona, Ourense, Oviedo, and Lleida experiencing freezing temperatures.
In the northern interior, the minimums will hover around 32°F, with a lower probability of frosts, while Southern Spain will benefit from less harsh conditions, with slightly higher minimums. The days of Thursday and Friday will be among the coldest of the week.
In the morning, temperatures will drop below 32°F in many areas, with significantly negative peaks around the Cantabrian Mountains, where the presence of snow on the ground will further amplify the cooling.
Starting from Saturday, a gradual increase in temperatures will reduce the intensity of the frosts, especially during nighttime.
Forecast for maximum temperatures
Even the maximum temperatures will remain low for most of the week.
On Tuesday, values below 50°F are expected in much of the interior, with cities like Burgos, Ávila, and Cuenca ranging between 41°F and 45°F. Despite a slight increase in maximums from Thursday, the cold weather will persist until the weekend, especially in the inland areas. The meteorological stability expected for Wednesday will favor a further drop in nighttime temperatures, due to the lower cloud cover, which allows for a faster dispersion of the heat accumulated during the day.
Canary Islands: eternal spring
The Canary Islands continue to experience relatively stable conditions, with maximum temperatures ranging between 68°F and 75°F and minimums generally between 59°F and 68°F.
Towards the end of the week, a slight increase in temperatures is expected, still maintaining a pleasant and mild climate compared to the Iberian Peninsula.
Thermal anomalies and impacts on the territory
The recorded temperature anomalies will generally be negative, with values between 28°F and 24°F below the seasonal average. Despite this, these values are not exceptional for the winter period.
The areas around the Cantabrian Mountains will experience more marked anomalies, with cooling accentuated by the presence of snow on the ground. The snowfall in these areas could favor further drops in temperatures, especially during nighttime.
The possible evolution of an Atlantic storm towards the weekend could introduce a change in conditions, leading to an increase in temperatures in some regions and mitigating the widespread frosts.
