Vortex in the Center-South
An unstable vortex will hit the Center-South in the coming hours, bringing a significant weather deterioration characterized by rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, a temperature drop and even SNOW at times abundant in the Apennines above 2950 feet (Pollino, Sellata, Sila).
But our gaze wants to go further, trying to hypothesize, with model data in hand, what could happen next week, the first of December, with the first holiday, the Immaculate Conception.
We can already anticipate that we are expecting a cold week that could further increase precisely between December 7 and 9.
Cold air from Russia
From Russia, a mass of cold air will make its way, bringing a significant drop in temperatures across Italy.
The cold push from the Northeast to the Southwest will also be possible thanks to the elevation of the Azores High towards the Iberian Peninsula, France, and England. And obviously, with a well-established anticyclonic block, albeit “lying” over Europe, it will cause the cold descent over our country.
Talking about details is still too premature, but we can already tell you that we are expecting a cold period that could even turn into frost.
Cold or frost?
For this, we will need to understand the extent of the cold air mass that will reach us, which isotherms will be able to cross the Alpine and Dinaric barriers, and especially if they will be able to create a low pressure at the ground capable of causing solid precipitation even at very low altitudes.
The possibilities are very high, also because the scenario is shared by several physical-mathematical models.
Therefore, let’s expect, barring any sudden changes, a cold (if not frosty) Immaculate Conception with the risk of low-altitude snowfalls first along the Adriatic side and the Alps, then also in Northern Italy if an Atlantic disturbance from the West intervenes (the famous cold cushion, now increasingly rare).
Winter like the old days?
We reiterate, even in this editorial, how the winter that is about to begin is completely different from those experienced so far. Does the cold season want to return to the old rigor, the classic and normal ones? Why not.
All the prerequisites are there. Let’s hope for the best.
Indeed, let’s hope for weather with snow.
