Italy is once again in the grip of the cold cyclone, which has returned from the Balkans, bringing typically autumnal weather.
However, there is much more than a glimmer of hope that will accompany us towards an improvement and a significant rise in temperatures, which we should feel by the end of the week.

the return of the African anticyclone with a touch of unseasonal warmth will slightly anticipate the times, although we will have to wait a few days.
If so, we would be facing the umpteenth dramatic swing of this September, after the incursion of polar air that disrupted the weather last week. A depression vortex had first deepened over Italy and then moved to the Balkans, but now it has returned, still active, to our country.
This retrograde motion is due to the powerful anticyclonic block that has established itself at high latitudes, with peaks in Scandinavia. In the coming days, instability will be significant with rain and thunderstorms, due to the cyclonic vortex present right over Italy.
Therefore, the weather will still be more autumnal than late summer, with bad weather that could hit hard in some regions, also with significant issues due to heavy rainfall. This scenario should accompany us in a substantially unchanged way until Thursday, September 19. In the last days of the week, the low-pressure area will tend to move more westward towards France, where it could then be subsequently absorbed by the general oceanic circulation.
Weekend with more sun and warmth, but the September Summer might not last
Following this westward shift of the depression, Italy will enjoy an improvement in atmospheric conditions. From Friday, September 20, variability will begin to give way to clear skies, and temperatures will start to reflect more typical values for the period. Over the weekend, pressure will increase further, and the African anticyclone will timidly make an appearance, with the awaited September Summer.
There will be more stable weather and, above all, a significant thermal rise, so much so that in some regions, we will enjoy the return of a late summer climate. The mercury column could reach and locally break the 30-degree barrier in some inland areas of Sardinia and Sicily by Sunday, September 22.
The warmth will also be felt along the Tyrrhenian side of the peninsular regions, where the mercury column could reach 28-29 degrees. The heat will be limited to the North, where the thermal rise will be modest. This expected thermal rise in the Center-South could be temporary, awaiting new autumn dynamics during the next week.
However, we confirm the hypothesis of possible warmth between the end of September and the beginning of October.
