The wave of cold affecting parts of Europe, and to a lesser extent Italy, has brought unprecedented snowfall to the eastern Swiss Alps and especially to the Austrian Alps, reaching our ridge.
Amounts of snow have reached up to 2 meters in height at higher altitudes.
A predicted snowstorm, which, however, in the plains at lower altitudes, has brought torrential rainfall, so much so that many towns are affected by floods, and there are casualties especially in the Balkans.
An unusual weather situation for September, as such a significant snow event has never been recorded at this time of year.
Due to climate change and the global increase in temperature, it may seem strange, but it is the large amount of water vapor available thanks to the very warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea that generates all this water availability, which then turned into snowfall in the mountains.
