Nevertheless, we are still dealing with the intense subtropical heat, which apparently will accompany us at least until the first days of September.
But what weather awaits us in the early days of meteorological autumn? Remember that, on the Italian climatic weather calendar, autumn will officially begin on September 1st, at least on paper.
In fact, however, we will still be dealing with heat and humidity in much of Italy, except for some sudden and strong thunderstorms that can provide a few hours of relief.
The First Autumn Jolts
However, we will still be in the month of September, which means we will face the first autumn jolts related to the resumption of the polar vortex.
We are talking about the stratospheric polar vortex which, for a few days now, has resumed rotating over the North Pole at over 20 km altitude.
The stratospheric polar vortex tends to reactivate precisely in the last days of August, thanks to the constant cooling of the air towards the North Pole, due to the increase in minutes of darkness.
The Awakening of the Polar Vortex
With the reactivation of the stratospheric polar vortex, the machine of the tropospheric polar vortex is set in motion, that is, the large depression that envelops the North Pole and influences the weather in Europe and the entire northern hemisphere between autumn and winter.
This means that already in the month of September we could see the first effects of the formation of the polar vortex.
More Dynamism
To be clear, this does not mean that sudden disturbances and cold waves will arrive in Italy.
However, there will be greater dynamism, that is, a greater possibility of bad weather waves alternating with North African heat waves. According to the latest updates from mathematical models, a first quick cool incursion, capable of sweeping away the humidity from Italy, could enter the Mediterranean around September 7-10.
Until then, it is likely that we will still be dealing with stable weather and very hot and humid climate in much of Italy.
