We will try to explain ourselves, also because we know all too well that those with some knowledge of our climatology might argue that the Atlantic was seen little or not at all. In reality, it was indeed seen, not with the peculiarities of the past, but its imprint was indelible.
The reference to the past is necessary, hence the reference to the classic Atlantic disturbances.
The great Ocean, once, was able to send disturbances one after the other, supported by westerly winds and a climate that was never too cold but not excessively mild either. It rained just enough, depending on the orography it rained more or less.
Yet the seasonal dictates were respected, properly replenishing the water basins and preparing the ground for what would then be Winter. We agree with those who say that Atlantic disturbances are no longer the same, but this year one cannot deny the impact of Atlantic depressions.
Depressions capable of “piercing” – literally – the anticyclonic resistance taking advantage – as usual – of the excessive marine heat. And so here are Mediterranean cyclonic vortices developing, sometimes really deep and as such particularly nasty.
Vortices that have dispensed irregular rains, but where present they have proven to be nothing short of violent.
Let’s not forget the flood events and, one might say, the usual flood events. But do you know what the most important thing is? That we have most likely laid the foundations for an equally dynamic and in some ways even extreme Winter.
Some climate patterns, you will remember, were already setting up in such a way as to support the thesis of a dynamic Winter since October.
Who knows, maybe a finally normal Winter. What is certain, at the moment, is that December seems to want to respect that idea, that thesis, that hypothesis that we hope can become reality. Everything will depend, it is fair to say, on the Polar Vortex and how much it will be able to withstand these first blows.
Yes, because at this moment it is a bit in trouble and the Arctic incursion now at the door will confirm its weakness. If it manages to recover, then let’s prepare for High Pressure, on the contrary, if it suffers other disturbances, then it will be good to prepare for a Winter that could have surprising weather and climate outcomes.
