It’s an autumn of yesteryears, a return to the weather of the past

Yes, exactly, those who lived through the autumn seasons of the ’80s-’90s know what we are talking about.

Years in which, already from mid-August, the weather conditions changed, sometimes heavily.
Thunderstorms arrived, never devastating but still important because they were a clear sign of the imminent handover.

Thunderstorms that were driven by fresh air infiltrations coming from the west-northwest, therefore from the Atlantic Ocean.

Sometimes it happened that a slightly more intense disturbance could occur.   Generally, the change began in the northern regions of Italy and then progressively moved to other areas.

Then, with September, the real “coming and going” of disturbances began, the classic oceanic train that produced rain after rain.

Never exaggerated, always beneficial, capable of maintaining water reserves at the right levels.   Well, this year we can say that we are observing something similar… In mid-August, you will remember, a severe deterioration hit our regions, declaring autumnal intentions from that time.

Then yes, there was the anticyclonic recovery and the absurd heat was not lacking – moreover until a week ago – but those who, like us, observe the baric evolution daily had already caught clear signs of weakening.   Imminent weakening of Summer, which forcefully entered with the arrival of September.

And here comes an immediate deterioration, locally violent, then the Arctic intrusion that was nothing short of surprising.

An intrusion that will have lasting effects due to a particular baric configuration, namely due to the formation of a Scandinavian anticyclonic block.   It is true that in an era of extreme weather phenomena, the phenomenology has nothing to do with what happened in the years mentioned at the beginning, but this is the result of global warming and the consequent climate change that is also affecting the Mediterranean basin.   It is useless to deny its existence, it would only worsen the situation.

It is good to acknowledge it, after all, the very high temperatures of our seas should suggest something, don’t you think? This is the main element that differentiates this early Autumn from the seasonal starts of a few decades ago.   Nevertheless, we can talk about absolute seasonal normality, witnessing such profound changes – considering that we are now in mid-September – is absolutely normal, it is part of the game.

There is nothing more to add.
