After the intense phase of bad weather that only marginally affected Northern Italy and then extended to Central-Southern Italy, the weather has returned to stability. The sun is the absolute protagonist, illuminating the country from north to south.
But for how long? Let’s find out together
The Anticyclone strengthens over Italy and the Mediterranean
The Anticyclone, which previously prevented bad weather from significantly penetrating Northern Italy, will continue to influence the atmospheric conditions.
Its action has resulted in consecutive days of strong northern winds, affecting areas from the highlands to the plains. The North-West area has been particularly affected, where prolonged dry conditions, which started at the end of October, will continue without interruption. Now the High Pressure will not only strengthen over the Mediterranean but will extend over much of the European continent.
Mild Anticyclone arriving, with high temperatures in the mountains
The winter anticyclone, similar to those of recent years, will consolidate in the coming days, bringing very mild temperatures, especially in mountainous areas.
From Boxing Day to Monday, December 30, the atmospheric warming will be more evident at higher altitudes, while in the plains the effects will be moderate due to thermal inversions.
The phase of maximum expansion of the anticyclone is recorded in these hours, between Boxing Day and Friday, December 27, with an influx of mild air that will also reach the Scandinavian Peninsula and Eastern Europe.
Change expected in the very first days of January
However, mathematical models indicate a significant meteorological shift. Starting from the following days, Northern Europe and Eastern Europe will experience a marked cooling.
By Tuesday, December 31, the temperature drop will be significant, with values at 850 hPa ranging between 17.6°F and 3.2°F, depending on the areas. In the extreme northern regions of Scandinavia, the thermometer could drop to -4°F.
So, cold is spreading! And for us? The first days of 2025 could be an interesting turning point in the weather, particularly between the 2nd and 4th when a first Atlantic front could bring widespread rain and snowfall: we will talk about it again…
