WEATHER UNTIL DECEMBER 29, 2024, ANALYSIS AND FORECAST
A new perturbation front initiates a weather phase with a fully winter flavor.
Arctic currents, following the perturbation, will begin to flow more decisively at the beginning of the week towards Italy, sliding along the eastern edge of the anticyclone located over Western Europe, which will simultaneously extend northward. The cold incursion will contribute to a new and sharp temperature drop, with initially polar-origin air followed by colder arctic extractions. This cold circulation will carve out a vortex between the Lower Adriatic and the Ionian, then remain stable for several days between the Balkans and Greece in what will be a more pronounced winter phase on the Adriatic and the South. Instability will persist at least until Christmas with low-altitude or hill snow, but at times even in the plains between Marche, Abruzzo, and Molise.
In the mountainous hinterland, snow will fall abundantly, with even significant accumulations in the Abruzzo areas.
The weather will be sunnier in the rest of Italy, as is typical with this type of configuration. Only after the 26th will the instability begin to subside thanks to the gradual push from the west of the anticyclone.
However, it is not excluded that a tail end of the instability could also affect part of the North-East with low-altitude snow on Boxing Day. The cold air flow, of Balkan origin, still seems likely to persist in the following days, maintaining cold temperatures.
IN DETAIL
Monday, December 23: unstable between Central Adriatic and South, with snow in the Apennines down to hill altitudes.
More sun in the rest of Italy with other snowfalls in the northern alpine sectors towards the border.
Temperatures will undergo a general drop with strong northern winds. Tuesday, December 24: the winter scenario is confirmed, rather unstable between Adriatic and part of the South where we will still have snowfalls down to the low hills, abundant on the Apennine ridge. Christmas: few changes, with snowfalls at low altitudes in the South and on the Middle Adriatic. Further weather trends: the cold circulation will slowly weaken, but further snowfalls down to hill altitudes in the southern regions will not be lacking.
